A Tour of the Holocene Extinction
Did you know we are in the midst of a mass extinction? The Holocene, our current epoch, has seen the species extinction rate climb between 1,000 to 10,000 times higher than its natural level due to human influence on Earth. Species that took thousands, millions, or billions of years to evolve are disappearing at an alarming rate, with hundreds having already been lost to habitat destruction, introduction of invasive pests, overhunting, climate change, and other manmade causes.
This exhibit is a memorial to 25 lost species and their stories. Featuring photographs of extinct animals taken in modern times, "A Tour of the Holocene Extinction" seeks to call attention to human impact on Earth's diverse animal kingdom. If we change course now, we may yet be able to reverse our effects on our planet and save our endangered kin.
